Entries were sadly disappointing at the Royal Welsh this year, which is a shame as we really like this show, but that didn’t stop us celebrating after a fantastic day’s showing for the team.

Taking the top spot for us was Williams Crystal’s Fleur, a Clonagh Tiger Gallant yearling heifer out of Williams Simone’s Crystal. She won her class then went junior heifer champion, female champion and overall breed champion.

Williams Fawkes also won his yearling bull class before clinching the junior bull champion, male champion and then reserve overall champion. Williams Felix stood third in the yearling bull class, while Frederick also won his class.

The other heifer in the team, Williams Belle’s Elsie, this time a Tiger Gallant two year old daughter won her class.

We decided to bring out a big team for this year’s Royal Norfolk Show, it’s on our doorstep and we love the show so decided to support it in full force. But in doing so we had to have a lot of support and help so would really like to thank Paul Walker, Julie Rooks and Charlie Collison for all their hard work at the show.

We kicked off our winning form with Williams Crystal’s Fleur who won her yearling heifer class and then stood reserve junior champion, while her half sister, another Tiger Gallant daughter, Williams Belle’s Elsie stood third in the April-born heifer class.

Our 2008-born cow Sterling Grace’s Wilhemina, a Darsham Playboy daughter stood second in her class and then went reserve female champion and reserve breed champion. She was shown with her April-born Heathbrow Tristar heifer calf at foot.

Then in the male team, Williams Frederick, who was junior champion at Suffolk Show, won his class, while Williams Felix came third and Williams Fawkes came fourth

Then former Royal Norfolk Show champion and senior herd sire Heathbrow Tristar took a trip round the ring with many exhibitors saying it was the best he had ever looked. Tristar won his class then went male champion. On the next day of the show, Tristar took the Continental male championship and teamed up with Theberton Abagail in the interbreed to win the pairs and was jpined by Wilhemina to win the interbreed group of three.

Adding to our success, we won the group of three again with a Tiger Gallant group and Elsie took the best bred in Norfolk Simmental honours, with Fleur taking reserve.

Then the proudest moment for us was watching William do beef young handlers for the first time where he stood second and then third in the calf class under judge Boomer Birch. A huge thank you to Paul who has been teaching him and guiding him from the ringside.

We decided to add a new show to our circuit for this year and headed to Lincoln Show in June and felt it was a great show and would definitely consider coming back in further years.

Under judge Stephen Brett, Williams Felix, a February 2014-born Clonagh Tiger Gallant son stood first and then male champion. This one is out of the Heathbrow Mischief daughter, Williams Tammy’s Connie.

Then following on from her junior championship win at the National, Williams Crystal’s Fleur was second in her class and then reserve junior champion, while her half sister, Williams Belle’s Elsie won her class and was reserve female champion and reserve overall champion.

We then won the group of three class all with Tiger Gallant progeny.

February 2013-born Eddie is by Clonagh Tiger Gallant and is out of the Heathbrow Tristar daughter, Williams Lorette Auror, herself out of one of our foundation females, Starline Lorette 24th. He’s had a pretty impressive show career for us this year, culminating in the interbreed junior championship at the Great Yorkshire Show and the junior male interbreed at the Royal Welsh Show. He found a new home with Messrs Leslie, Elgin, Moray, for their Redhill herd. He also took a first prize on the day.

Also selling for us was our February 2013-born Williams Malvenas 4th. This Heathbrow Tristar daughter took the reserve female championship and is out of the Blackford Lancer daughter Tillymaud Malvenas 58th. She found a new home with Inverduning Ltd, Blairlogie at 3000gns.

By Clonagh Tiger Gallant, he won his class and then went on to be reserve male champion and junior champion. On the second day of the show he went one step further by taking the interbreed junior championship of the show under judge and H&H auctioneer David Thomlinson. Also in the team was Williams Wendy’s Dromeda, an April 2012-born Heathbrow Tristar daughter out of a Sterling Rochester daughter who was purchased as a foundation female for the herd. Dromeda stood third in a strong class of two year old heifers.

The Williams herd has entered both the East Anglian and South East Simmental Club's herd competitions and has been fortunate to perform well in both.

In the South East Club's competition we won the best bull born before January 2012 with Williams Elliot, as well as winning the award for the best heifer born before January 2012 with Williams Wednesday Emily.

As well as those two great awards we also picked up the Merian Jones award for the best youngstock and were placed second in the large herd's section of the overall competition.

And on top of that we were delighted to see Williams Draco named as the South East Simmental of the year.

In the East Anglia Club competition our senior stock sire Heathbrow Tristar was named best stock bull and the herd was named champion herd in the competition.

It's always pleasing to have our stock admired by others and the success in this year's herd competitions is a satisfying indictment of our breeding policy.

We're delighted to have recently sold a trio of females to another Norfolk farm, with Tristan Scott, Horsfold, Norwich, visiting to buy Sterling Newmoons Tammy, Williams Tilly Bertha and Williams Malvenas 5.

These three females come from some of the leading lines in the Williams herd, with Bertha and Malvenas both coming from female lines which have made a mark since the foundation of the Williams herd.

Bertha, a daughter of senior stock sire Heathbrow Tristar out of Key Tilly, herself a Shannock Laser daughter and sold in-calf to homebred sire Williams Dementor. Malvenas 5, meanwhile, is another Heathbrow Tristar daughter out of Tillymaud Malvenas 53.

Blue Texel shearling ewe

It was the Blue Texel sheep show team that dominated the headlines for us at this year’s East of England Show as we were delighted to take win the shearling ewe class and then go on to be female and overall breed champion. The ewe, which was shown for us by Harry Middleditch, was purchased at David Alexander’s production sale last year and is by a Craigalbert tup out of a Millside ewe.

In the Simmental classes, which for this year was the host for the English National Simmental Show, our young team of Heathrbow Tristar progeny performed well with Williams Simone’s Crystal standing third and Williams Verona’s Cherry standing fourth in the January-born yearling heifer class, while Williams Vesta’s Belby stood second in the August-December-born two year old heifer class. In a tough January-born two year old heifer class we stood fifth with Williams Regal Lady 4th. Next stop for us will be the Kent County Show with both the Simmentals and the Blue Texels.

We’d first of all like to wish Steve White of the Tirley herd, Cheshire, the best of luck with his new junior herd sire Williams Cresent, who he also plans to show this year. Cresent is an April 2011-born son of our successful herd sire Heathbrow Tristar and is out of one of our foundation females Astcote Toffee. The girls were scanned in December and they’re all in lamb to our stock tup which was bred in the Duns flock and most are carrying twins, so fingers crossed we’ll have some good lambs on the ground soon.

This year’s National Simmental Show saw us take a trip to Malvern for the Three Counties Show. Judge Peter O’Connell from the Raceview herd in Southern Ireland placed Tristar first in the senior bull class, then gave him male champion and then overall reserve breed champion. With such a high standard of cattle forward at the show, this was a huge success for Tristar who is having a pretty impressive show season to date.

Tristar then paired up with Popes Princess Victoria from Jimmy and Vikki Woods to take the Continental pairs championship and then the interbreed pairs championship.

And in incredibly tough female classes, our yearling heifer Williams Snow Queen stood a very respectable fifth place in her class, while Sterling Ritzys Vesta stood fifth in the intermediate cow and calf class.

In incredibly strong Blue Texel classes we stood fourth in the shearling ewe class with a Bishops-bred ewe, while our homebred ewe lamb stood fifth. Seeing as we’re new to showing Blue Texels we were delighted to be receiving rosettes in such strong classes with established breeders.
